You could make it a dice roll, a percentage, a life of the officer for any/all accuracy, morale boosts, or doctor capabilities. A provisions officer John3 would be great for morale, and a pirate crew for boarding? Any of these or any other paths could be exploited perhaps for depth to the game. John1 maybe would be extremely useful for a merchant/traders player, but John2, a marine officer would not. of these we can chose to level for whatever type of gaming you wish to do. Dice roll, RNJesus, ect, theres a possibility of losing John1.īut to build on this, we've got other officer slots for cannonry, boarding (marine officer), sailing, provisions (which have been discussed), doctor, whatever, and ea. Now lets say John1 and yourself are in a battle, and you lose. We train him up, and we level him in navigation. There are officers slots available, so lets say you level up an officer John1, and you sail w/him for 100hrs, 1000 nautical miles, whatever can be agreed upon, as a measure. Īt some point, I'd like to see a skill possibility for your officers to level up for chart/star/sextant reading. I do agree with SouthofHeaven.would LOVE to see a more old timey map and some archaic style drafting tools for ploting.something a la Silent Hunters, but period correct. The chances that any of you using this argument can ACTUALY navigate by stars is slim to none. Would you be happy with that? Probably not because youd still be QQin for a map marker. As in if proper start charts were used to create a sky. You think sailors of this time period had there ACCURATE possition marked on a map? No, there were errors.lots of em.įFS columbus thought he was in India!!!!!įor those of you using the 'there were stars' argument for wanting e-z mode how would you feel if it was done accuratly. Yes there are stars.Yes it is possible to circumnavigate by the stars.BUT it is still MAINLY dependant on human calculation, on human reckoning.

Saying that there were stars back then does not in any way explain why the players possition would be marked on the map.

just add a "old looking" effect to the map with like paper edges so it looks like youre down in the cabins plotting your course when in map mode not sure what you mean.Īgreed a type of navigation feature where you can use the tools they used back then to plot a course on the map. Sailors always used the stars to navigate. I would agree that players need a grease pencil to mark map.maybe a ruler or some such.īut saying there were stars so you position should be marked for you is just silly. It would be great if you could screen cap it somehow and it automatically updates the info. The problem is that they take too much time if you want to add anything to it (all info from a specific port for example). Never ONCE in the history of man has the stars marked a persons map for them. Tools like these are always nice to have.
